The Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) is an autonomous academic national institution of the Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India dedicated to research in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Allied Sciences & Technology. The Institute has its main campus in Koramangala, Bangalore and CREST Campus at Hosakote, Bangalore. It operates field stations at Kavalur & Kodaikanal in Tamilnadu, Gauribidanur in Karnataka, and Leh / Hanle in Jammu & Kashmir.

Pay Scale: Rs. 15,600-39,100/- + Grade Pay: Rs. 5,400/-

Age Limit: 35 years

Qualification: B.E. / B. Tech. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from a recognized university / institute with more than 60% marks in the aggregate. Familiarity with computers and certified training in CADD software and applications relevant to developing design and drawings.

Experience:-

• Essential: 2 years experience in a reputed research institute or in a medium scale industry in the field of Fabrication, machining, assembly of instruments, QC, Metrology and developing engineering drawings using CAD.Knowledge on engineering materials.
• Desirable: Operation and Maintenance of mechanical systems, material handling devices and procedure. Experience in astronomical instrumentation is an advantage. Developing CAD design of mechanical systems / instruments.

Job Requirements: The appointee will be required to reside in quarters in the campus of the observatory. Since observatory operations are at night, he / she may be called to attend to emergency maintenance / testing at night.
