Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) organizes Indian Engineering Service Exam for posts in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical engineering and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. Information about Exam Pattern and Syllabus of IES Exam is given here.

Exam Pattern  :- UPSC has been made a change in the syllabus and pattern of Indian Engineering exam. UPSC will be conducted this exam in three stages that will be as follows :-

1. Preliminary Exam (Objective Type Paper (500 Marks)
2. Mains exam (Conventional type Paper) (600 Marks)
3. Personality Test (200 Marks)

1. Preliminary Exam :-  The Engineering Services (Preliminary/Stage-I) Examination will consist of two objective type (multiple  choices) questions papers and carrying a maximum of 500 marks. In The Preliminary Exam Paper -II Subject is differ according differ Category.

Paper – i	General Studies & Engineering Aptitude	200	2 Hrs.
Paper – ii	Civil/ Mechanical/ Electrical/ Electronics & Tele Communication Engineering	300	3 hrs.
Total		500 Marks

Note :- There will be negative marking of 0.33 Marks for objective type paper.

2. Mains exam :- Those candidate who qualified the Preliminary Exam are eligible to participate the mains exam. The Mains exam Comprise two Papers. The Exam pattern is differ according to the branch as follows…

Paper -I	Civil / Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics & Tele Communication Engineering	300	3 Hrs.
Paper -II	Civil / Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics & Tele Communication Engineering	300	3 Hrs.
TOTAL		600 Marks

Note :- The Engineering Services (Mains/stage-II) Examination will consist two conventional type papers in Engineering Discipline specific with duration of three hours and maximum marks of 600 (300 Marks in each paper).

3. Personality Test :-In  the Personality Test special attention will be paid to assessing the candidate’s capacity for leadership, initiative and intellectual  curiosity, tact and other social qualities, mental and physical energy, powers of practical application and integrity of character.  The Personality Test will carrying 200 Marks (with no qualifying Marks).

► Final selection will be based on total marks of written exam and interview.
